Description

Yurpeak 10mg KwikPen is a prescription injectable medicine containing Tirzepatide 10mg as its active ingredient. It belongs to a class of medicines known as dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. The medicine is developed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic weight management in eligible adults, under medical supervision.

Yurpeak is available in a multi-dose pre-filled KwikPen device designed to administer four fixed weekly doses. Each dose contains 10mg of tirzepatide in 0.6ml of solution.

Composition and Therapeutic Uses

The active pharmaceutical ingredient in Yurpeak 10mg KwikPen is Tirzepatide. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Depending on the patient's clinical condition, it may be prescribed alone when metformin is unsuitable or alongside other diabetes medicines.

Tirzepatide is also indicated for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI of 30 kg/m² or above), or overweight (BMI of 27 kg/m² or above) with at least one weight-related medical condition. These may include hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea or type 2 diabetes.

Mechanism of Action

Tirzepatide works by activating two hormonal receptors: GIP and GLP-1. These incretin hormones play important roles in regulating blood glucose levels, appetite and food intake.

Its mechanism of action includes:

Stimulating insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner.

Reducing glucagon secretion when blood glucose levels are elevated.

Slowing gastric emptying, particularly during initial treatment.

Influencing appetite regulation and reducing food intake.

Through these combined actions, tirzepatide helps improve glycaemic control and supports weight reduction when used alongside appropriate lifestyle measures.

Dosage and Administration

Yurpeak 10mg KwikPen is administered as a subcutaneous injection once weekly. The abdomen, thigh or back of the upper arm are commonly used injection areas. Injection sites should be rotated regularly.

Treatment generally begins with a lower 2.5mg weekly dose for four weeks. Subsequent dose adjustments are made gradually according to clinical response and tolerability. The 10mg strength may be prescribed as a maintenance dose when considered appropriate by the treating healthcare professional.

Patients should follow the prescribed administration instructions and should not independently change the dose or frequency.

Possible Side Effects

Like other medicines, Yurpeak may cause adverse reactions. Commonly reported side effects include:

Nausea and vomiting

Diarrhoea

Constipation

Abdominal discomfort

Decreased appetite

Indigestion

Less common but potentially serious complications include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, dehydration-related kidney complications and severe allergic reactions. Hypoglycaemia may occur, particularly when tirzepatide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Persistent or severe symptoms require medical assessment.

Precautions and Storage

Yurpeak should be used only under appropriate medical supervision. Patients should inform their healthcare professional about existing medical conditions, pregnancy plans and all medicines being taken.

The KwikPen is intended for individual patient use and must never be shared, even if the needle is changed.

Unused pens should be refrigerated at 2°C–8°C and must not be frozen. Following first use, the pen may be stored at temperatures up to 30°C and should be discarded within 30 days or after four weekly doses, whichever comes first.
